D-Day 75th Anniversary Remembrance Dinner
American Legion Post 171 Damascus will host a D-Day Remembrance Dinner on Saturday, June 1st. The Social Hour begins at 5:00 PM with the program starting at 6:00 PM. The purpose of the dinner is to not only honor those patriots who participated in the Normandy Invasion but to recognize all WWII veterans. Post 171’s WWII veterans will be our honored guests. And we extend an invitation to you to join us at this ceremony. The program includes:
Static Displays - World War II artifacts including maps, books, uniforms, weapons, and surrender documents
POW-MIA table - also known as a fallen comrade table in honor of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members
Guest Speaker - noted Franklin D. Roosevelt historian, Delmas Wood Jr., founder of the FDR Living Museum and the Sandy Spring Museum. He will arrive in a 1936 Ford Phaeton and reenact the Declaration of War Speech delivered on Dec 8th, 1941.
Awards – Post 171 honorees will receive medals
Proclamation - Post 171 will receive the Governor’s proclamation on behalf of WWII veterans
News coverage – Ross Simpson, (TV WDVM-25) Hagerstown will film the program, interview some of our WW2 vets, and create a special to be aired on June 6th
Menu – appetizers, fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes, stewed tomatoes, green beans, coleslaw, rolls/butter, and dessert.
Seating is limited, tickets will be sold by reservation and on a first come basis at the door for $20. You are encouraged to contact Steve Monteiro to reserve seating.

We at American Legion Post 171 in Damascus, Maryland, are veterans, men, and women who have served honorably in the armed forces during the war eras prescribed by law. The Post was founded in the fall of 1945.
Our Post includes more than 300 Legionnaires, who, like all American Legion (www.legion.org) members, are volunteers who serve with a commitment to support our fellow service members and veterans, mentor our young Americans, sponsor community service programs, and advocate for strengthening our nation’s defense and security, patriotism and honor.

We raise money for our activities and charitable donations with weekly cash Bingo on Thursday evenings and public events like shrimp feasts and oyster roasts at various times each year. We invite you to join us for these events.
